Head Start to AP English Language & Composition

This in-person course will prepare incoming 11th Grade AP English Language and Composition students for the expectations of the college-level course and provide all interested college-bound high school students with an introduction to the skills and concepts required for college-level reading and writing. The course will also help students tackle the summer reading assignments associated with AP English Language and Composition and prepare for the updated AP English Language and Composition exam. This rigorous activity-based five-day course will provide the foundations for success in AP Language and Composition in the fall by addressing the key objectives of the class. Students will gain exposure to and practice in the following key areas: strategies for success in timed writing, a central component of AP Language and Composition; synthesis, analytical, and argumentative writing; close-reading skills and strategies; test-taking strategies; advanced language mechanics, including grammar and vocabulary. Most importantly, whether you are in Honors or Academic this year, the course will prepare you for success in the fall and bridge the gap between English II and AP English Language and Composition. All materials and resources will be provided by Mr. Challandes, a veteran teacher of AP English Language and Composition.
